Born in 1938, artist Roland Hockett grew up in LaPorte, Indiana. As an adolescent, he was inspired by the sculptures of Isamu Noguchi. Though Hockett has spent the bulk of his career in Panama City, Florida, his artwork can be found across the country and internationally in Costa Rica. He retains strong ties with the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts in Tallahassee, Florida. His work is part of the LeMoyne Permanent Collection; of particular note are his sculptures in LeMoyne‟s Helen Lind Sculpture Garden.
