Wheel Throwing

Have you always wanted to learn the basics of throwing clay on the wheel?
Join ceramic artist Gregg Matthews and learn how to use the potter's wheel in this 8-week Beginning Wheel class!
Sessions will focus on developing the skills to take a ball of clay and center, open, raise, pull and shape it into a variety of objects.
This class is a great opportunity for students to explore clay on the potter's wheel in a fun and creative atmosphere!

​ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

GREGG MATTHEWS
Gregg Matthews is an experienced studio potter living and working in Tallahassee, FL, dividing his time between his own studio and managing the Ceramics Department Studios at Florida State University.
His goal as a maker, artisan & craftsman is to create objects which spark interest, inspire conversation, and tell a story. A focus on creating functional, utilitarian objects for everyday use is intentional, to remind us of the connection between art and daily life, between a maker and the user, between beauty and function.
Lifelong interests in drawing, painting, and 3-dimensional art blended together when studying architecture & computers; ultimately Gregg began combining his drawings, photos and graphics with his handmade stoneware pottery and handmade glazes. Putting 2D images onto a 3D pot echoes the spirit of architecture and offers a rich area for exploring the boundary lines between modern technology and handmade tradition.
He finds that boundaries offer the most intense action, be it at the seashore, the base of the cliff, under the water, or right outside the front door.
