Within this youth workshop, students will select a printed outline of a spooky item, whether it be a pumpkin, skull, flying bat, or witch’s hat, and imagine the different patterns and designs they could use to fill the shape through cut and rolled up pieces of paper. Students will spend time discussing ideas and the various methods they could use to make their vision happen, as well as a brief teacher demo for reference. The class will then receive assistance in cutting, rolling, and gluing paper to produce their unique collage. By the end, they will have a tangible and visually engaging piece of art that will hopefully be the biggest treat they get out of their Halloween weekend!
This workshop will help to build a foundation for technical collage-based skills by guiding the students on how to discuss and visualize a complex composition as well as how to bring it to life through the cutting, gluing, and assemblage of rolled pieces of colored construction paper. We hope to see you there!
