A Collage Workshop: Compose and Layer

Through 2-day weekend workshops, discover the boundless world of collage through the distinctive lenses of two accomplished artists. In this hands-on workshop, inga finch and amanda wander will guide you through their unique approaches to mixed media collage, revealing how different materials and techniques can transform simple paper into compelling visual stories or vignettes.

Inga finch brings a vibrant, image-driven practice to the studio, working with carefully curated magazine clippings of botanical imagery and iconic fashion photography. Watch as she demonstrates how to compose striking narratives through strong and precise composition by juxtaposing color, pattern, and photographic imagery into cohesive works that pulse with contemporary energy.

Amanda wander invites you into a more tactile realm, where printmaking techniques meet the raw beauty of torn papers, hand-stitching, and found objects. Her layered approach builds depth and texture, creating surfaces that beg to be touched and explored. Learn how she combines unexpected materials to achieve rich, dimensional compositions that blur the line between collage and 3-d assemblage.

Throughout the workshop, you'll have the opportunity to experiment with both approaches, discovering which techniques and materials resonate with your own creative voice. You will also have the opportunity to combine all techniques, hanging on to those that help you express your specific flavor of creativity!

No prior experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and willingness to play. All materials provided, though you're welcome to bring personal items or images that inspire you.

Leave with finished pieces that reflect your exploration, new skills to continue your practice, and fresh eyes for seeing the artistic potential in everyday materials.

Meet the Instructor

Amanda Wander & Inga Finch

AMANDA WANDER Amanda Wander earned her BA in Studio Art from Florida State University in 2008. She served as Education Director at LeMoyne from 2004 to 2006 and has exhibited her mixed media collages and assemblages at venues such as LeMoyne and the Gadsden Arts Center. With a diverse skill set spanning photography, printmaking, leatherworking, bookbinding, foundry techniques, and graphic design, she has also taught workshops at LeMoyne and the Thomasville Center for the Arts. Wander's artistic philosophy embraces the idea that "more is better"—a belief she applies through the process of "gilding the lily," continually adding layers and complexity to her work. Her recent creations include artist books and small-scale mixed media collages, reflecting her ongoing exploration of texture, materiality, and narrative. INGA FINCH Inga Finch is a Tallahassee-based artist and photographer who loves working with imagery, color, and found materials to create collage pieces that feel playful, intuitive, and story-driven. Her creative background comes from years of working with photography, fine art, and visual storytelling, and she brings that same eye into her collage work. In class, Inga focuses on helping people loosen up, trust their instincts, and find compositions that feel exciting and true to them, even if they do not consider themselves “artists.”
