37th Mahaska Whitley Student Exhibition: High School Art & Senior Portfolio Competition Thursday, Mar 7 - Saturday, Mar 30, 2024 Each spring since 1988, LeMoyne Arts has put the spotlight on talented young Tallahassee artists in the Mahaska Whitley Student Exhibition: High School Art & Senior Portfolio Competition.
All Leon County high school students enrolled in an art course are invited to participate in this celebration and exhibition of their immense talent and creativity, on display for all to see! For many students, this opportunity is their first experience presenting artwork in a professional gallery environment. To encourage students to continue developing their love and involvement in the arts student work is reviewed by a panel of judges from local collegiate art programs and awarded art supply gift certificates. Senior Portfolio winners receive college scholarships through LeMoyne Arts, made possible through generous donations from individuals and businesses. |
Dive into the enchanting world of 'Radiant Wonders: Exploring Nature's Brilliance,' where the boundless beauty of the natural realm comes to life through the creative perspectives of three exceptional artists. Nancy Jefferson's nature-inspired ceramics, adorned with her iconic red dots, harmonize with Dan Taylor's bold and abstract paintings, capturing the vibrant hues of the wild. Jim Miller's bird photography adds an intimate touch, revealing the intricate details of Florida's avian wonders. This exhibition, a captivating fusion of ceramics, paintings, and photography, invites you to witness the radiant wonders of nature through the eyes of these extraordinary artists. Immerse yourself in the celebration of untamed brilliance, where each medium becomes a unique vessel for the artists to convey the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world.
In celebration of Tallahassee’s Bicentennial, we have partnered with PROOF Brewing Company for our second can-art label competition. With a dozen participating artists, this year's entries focus on Tallahassee landmarks, heritage, and culture. The winning can artwork, titled "Fall Colors" by artist Natalia Andreeva, will be featured on one of PROOF's custom-brewed beers and is scheduled to launch at LeMoyne's Chain of Parks Art Festival, which will be held on April 20th and 21st, 2024! This exhibit is now on view in LeMoyne’s Albrecht Gallery space from Tuesday, January 16th to Saturday, February 24th, 2024.
2023 Exhibits
LeMoyne Arts is delighted to anniversary Women Among Us: Portraits of Strength with a whole new collection! Local, accomplished women, aged 65 or older, are featured in this exhibition of environmental photographic portraits. Each large-format portrait is enriched by a short poem and an engaging biographical story. The collection, a collaboration of Becki Rutta, Mary Jane Ryals, Carol Lynne Knight, Linda Hall, and Eleanor Dietrich, was created to honor these powerful women.
Woman Among Us: Portraits of Strength recognizes a diverse group of women, over age 65, by exhibiting large-format photographic portraits & telling their stories. Their strength, spirit, & joy are revealed in these powerful portraits by Becki Rutta. Accompanying texts of interviews & poems tell more about their passions and lifelong dedication to following their dreams & also touching the lives of so many in our community. Exhibits include elected officials, educators, artists, activists & scientists.

Abstracto: Land of Dreams, featuring painter Leslie Anderson, is an exhibit full of rich color, texture, and dreamy imagery created by 36 local and regional artists. Abstract landscapes accented with flora, fauna, and the human form lead the viewer on an imaginative journey. This mixed media exhibit allows the viewer to have a moment of freedom to assign their own meaning to the work, whilst being moved by unique compositions and expressive splashes of color.
Get excited about the Quilters Unlimited exhibit! After a three-year hiatus, the Quilters Unlimited members are back to share their work at LeMoyne Arts, Tuesday, July 11 - Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Some transformations are big and bold. Quilters and other fiber artists manifest metamorphosis in both subtle and bold ways. From 2019 until now, Quilters Unlimited members haven’t been able to share their new work, metamorphoses, and artistic transformations with our community. This exhibit expresses their love of this medium and represents how this group of quilters has evolved over time.

Tuesday-Saturday, 11AM-6PM LeMoyne Arts is delighted to have the Tallahassee Watercolor Society back for its 35th Anniversary! Tallahassee Watercolor Society was established in the 1980s to promote the art of watercolor painting in Tallahassee and surrounding communities in Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. This long-standing partnership is a natural extension of the mission of both organizations.
This annual exhibition attracts artists throughout the region and is juried by nationally accredited artists. The selected artists explore a variety of watercolor techniques and subject matter, showcasing the beauty of this medium. |

Eden Altered
Feat. Linda Hall and Dimelza Broche

Tuesday-Saturday, 11AM-6PM Eden Altered, featuring mixed media artists Linda Hall and Dimelza Broche, is a whimsical, surreal, imaginative exhibit focusing on the chaos of nature. They explore the beautiful and the macabre with elegance and magic. This visual adventure into an altered Garden of Eden evokes a sense of wonder as viewers experience otherworldly textures, powerful use of color, anthropomorphized creatures, femininity, and exploration of self.

Women Among Us
Portraits of Strength October 14 - 30, 2021 WOMAN AMONG US: PORTRAITS OF STRENGTH recognizes the hidden gems of the community — women who generally don’t look for accolades, women who have dedicated themselves to what they love doing for decades, women over age 65. The WAU group of volunteers is working to mount this exhibit of large format photos of 17 area women still active and making a positive impact on your community.

Barbara Balzer & Lesley Nolan September 9 - October 9, 2021 LeMoyne Arts is thrilled to showcase new works from celebrated ceramicists, Barbara Balzer and Lesley Nolan, as they explore human nature and form in unique and masterful ways. Accompanying the sculptures is a selection of abstract 2D works from local and regional artists. Together, the work transforms the gallery into a surreal setting that encourages exploration of symbolism, whimsy, and corporeal form.

Tallahassee Watercolor Society
33rd Tri-State Juried Water Media Exhibition May 21 - July 24, 2021 The Tallahassee Watercolor Society was established around 1980 to promote the art of watercolor painting in Tallahassee and surrounding communities in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Two juried exhibits are sponsored each year for members, one in the Spring and the other in the Fall. Prestigious Signature Membership is earned when a member accumulates a specific number of points by exhibiting in these events.

Zerbe Zelebration
Expression & Evolution April 8 - May 8, 2021 The Zerbe Zelebration is a citywide multi-media exhibition of Expressionist Movement artist Karl Zerbe’s works as we mark the 50th anniversary of his retirement from FSU. This Zelebration kicks off LeMoyne's Chain of Parks Art Festival for 2021! As a world-renowned artist and FSU professor, Zerbe entrusted LeMoyne Arts with the largest collection of his artwork in the world. LeMoyne Arts will be showing 8 never-before-seen pieces for the Zelebration, along with hosting lectures and round table discussions on civil rights, Zerbe in his time and ours, and birding (Zerbe is best known in Tallahassee for his printed bird collection, inspired by his time at St. Marks Wildlife Sanctuary).

34th Mahaska Whitley Student Exhibition
High School Art & Senior Portfolio Competition March 11 - 31, 2021 This exhibit is named in honor of Mahaska Whitley as the exhibit founder along with Dick L. Puckett, LeMoyne Arts founding Executive Director. Ms. Whitley was an art teacher at Leon high school for many years, saying she “felt a need to have high school students understand the importance of how they presented their artwork, especially if they wanted to pursue their art career”. She also reflects that the annual exhibit “is such a gift to the community, for them to be able to recognize the talent that our young people have”. Ms. Whitley has attended the exhibit opening for 33 of the 34 years and always selects a student work for the prestigious Founders Award.

Civil Rights:
Then & Now February 11 - 27, 2021 For Black History month, LeMoyne Arts is reflecting on artwork inspired by the civil rights movement in the 1960s compared to contemporary artwork today. We are showing Karl Zerbe's Civil Right collection from the 1960s (inspired by the jailing in Albany GA) along with contemporary artwork that reflects civil rights movement of our time.
