Press Release
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – LeMoyne Arts is taking action to be a part of the solution to improve understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of everyone in the community, through the power of ART. Over the last several weeks, the country has witnessed and been affected by the events surrounding extreme injustice toward Black Americans. LeMoyne Arts stands in solidarity and support of those on the front lines, fighting against racism and discrimination of any kind, and it joins the fight to eradicate it completely. LeMoyne calls all those who want to participate in submitting their art or written expression for the Justice through Art exhibition, to be displayed at LeMoyne's gallery this summer.
"We are happy to help everyone in our community voice their feelings in the most creative way possible with the ‘Justice through Art’ exhibition," said Lori Carlson, Executive Director of LeMoyne Arts. "From its beginning, LeMoyne has had a deep history of supporting & advancing equal rights through the arts - and this exhibit, with its outreach to everyone, is a continuation of that legacy. In all forms, art can heal & inspire & open pathways to understanding and change."
LeMoyne Arts' rich history and participation in the civil rights movement and its dedication to ending racial inequality will live on. LeMoyne seeks to be a part of the movement, the solution, and the healing from racial inequalities.
Submissions may include visual art, poetry, and essays. “This is an opportunity to show how you feel, and see what "Justice through Art" looks like for you," said Carlson.
A selection committee will be appointed and will select submissions for display at LeMoyne Arts at a later date this summer. Submissions are due on or before August 24, 2020. Participants will be notified if their submission is selected for the exhibit. Submissions will be published on our website at www.LeMoyne.org.
