LeMoyne Arts has embarked on a journey to expand and improve its art education programming through the acquisition and renovation of the building located at 131 North Gadsden Street – immediately adjacent (on the southside) to the LeMoyne Galleries.
The new building, purchased by LeMoyne on July 13, 2021, is two stories, 6,254 square feet with 20 parking spaces, and a garden area. This new art education center will house modern, accessible classrooms and studios and is pivotal to LeMoyne's investment in and education of this region's youth as well as adults; thereby ensuring Art for Always for one and all. Art studio classrooms will include drawing, watercolor/acrylic/oil painting, fiber arts, mixed media, digital media, glass arts and flexible open studio and workshop space. Each studio will be named in honor of someone who has played a meaningful role in the history of LeMoyne Art Foundation. Ron joined LeMoyne as an affiliate artist in 1977 and served as volunteer Executive Director from 1983-1986. He recently recalled his active days at LeMoyne with much affection stating, “I loved those years at LeMoyne. We had a lot of fun keeping everything going.” In appreciation of Ron’s role at LeMoyne and in the arts community, LeMoyne has previously honored Ron and his legacy by naming an art festival lane in his honor. Plans include a signature Yrabedra “border” at the top of one of the studio walls created by friends of Ron’s, and which channel his spirit and bring his memory into the studio space. Ron was very pleased to learn of this new honor and had hoped to be able to see the project completed. An artist and leader, Ron played a major role in the evolution and development of LeMoyne as a local treasure and will now be remembered through this meaningful creative space. LeMoyne is proud to create this teaching space and to make it the best it can be through the donations of generous donors seeking to remember and preserve Ron’s legacy in a meaningful and impactful way. LeMoyne is seeking $100,000 to support this effort and will recognize all who share in this tribute to Ron and his legacy. |
