The Sentinels & Florida Birds

Transcript

One of the three fountains found in the garden is the tranquil round pool with a stunning duo of Fred Holschuh sculptures called “The Sentinels.” Donated to LeMoyne by the artist in 1992, this pair of geese stands guard over the beauty and charm of LeMoyne’s sculpture gardens.

The Sentinels are complemented by a hand-painted mural by artist Devyn Diffenbacher Watson on the kiln shed behind the garden. Watson’s mural, called “Florida Birds”, is a moving tribute to the natural beauty Tallahassee is known for. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Watson moved to Tallahassee to pursue the BFA Studio Art program and the Art Education program at Florida State University. After graduating, she became a full-time working tattoo artist. In her spare time, she creates oil paintings and murals around the Tallahassee area, like this one she created for LeMoyne in 2023. Follow the path down the hill to learn more about the Studios of LeMoyne and the opportunities local artists find as part of our community.
