2021 Member's Show:
A New Year's Hope

We are showing off what some of our members have discovered over the past year while staying distant and experiencing the turbulent year of 2020. A New Year’s Hope is a special exhibit for our members to share their creations and help us kick off a brand new year of exciting exhibits and events at LeMoyne.

Civil Rights: Then & Now

For Black History month, LeMoyne Arts is reflecting on artwork inspired by the civil rights movement in the 1960s compared to contemporary artwork today. We are showing Karl Zerbe's Civil Right collection from the 1960s (inspired by the jailing in Albany GA) along with contemporary artwork that reflects civil rights movement of our time.

34th Mahaska Whitley Student Exhibition High School Art & Senior Portfolio Competition

This exhibit is named in honor of Mahaska Whitley as the exhibit founder along with Dick L. Puckett, LeMoyne Arts founding Executive Director. Ms. Whitley was an art teacher at Leon high school for many years, saying she “felt a need to have high school students understand the importance of how they presented their artwork, especially if they wanted to pursue their art career”. She also reflects that the annual exhibit “is such a gift to the community, for them to be able to recognize the talent that our young people have”. Ms. Whitley has attended the exhibit opening for 33 of the 34 years and always selects a student work for the prestigious Founders Award.

Zerbe Zelebration Expression & Evolution

The Zerbe Zelebration is a citywide multi-media exhibition of Expressionist Movement artist Karl Zerbe’s works as we mark the 50th anniversary of his retirement from FSU. This Zelebration kicks off LeMoyne's Chain of Parks Art Festival for 2021! As a world-renowned artist and FSU professor, Zerbe entrusted LeMoyne Arts with the largest collection of his artwork in the world. LeMoyne Arts will be showing 8 never-before-seen pieces for the Zelebration, along with hosting lectures and round table discussions on civil rights, Zerbe in his time and ours, and birding (Zerbe is best known in Tallahassee for his printed bird collection, inspired by his time at St. Marks Wildlife Sanctuary).

Two juried exhibits are sponsored each year for members, one in the Spring and the other in the Fall. Color Theory: An Exploration of Pigments

Color Theory: An Exploration of Pigments is an exhibit focused on the way we experience color, and the emotional power pigments can evoke. Observe a textural ombré of color as you walk LeMoyne’s gallery. See how over 30 artists express the harmony and inspiration brought on by statements of color in this exciting new exhibit, featuring guest artist, Jim Sherraden.

Figure in Form: Barbara Balzer & Lesley Nolan

LeMoyne Arts is thrilled to showcase new works from celebrated ceramicists, Barbara Balzer and Lesley Nolan, as they explore human nature and form in unique and masterful ways. Accompanying the sculptures is a selection of abstract 2D works from local and regional artists. Together, the work transforms the gallery into a surreal setting that encourages exploration of symbolism, whimsy, and corporeal form.

Women Among Us Portraits of Strength

WOMAN AMONG US: PORTRAITS OF STRENGTH recognizes the hidden gems of the community — women who generally don’t look for accolades, women who have dedicated themselves to what they love doing for decades, women over age 65. The WAU group of volunteers is working to mount this exhibit of large format photos of 17 area women still active and making a positive impact on your community. This exhibit and catalog are dedicated to Charlotte Williams, who passed away in January 2020.
