Mixed Media Open Studio

Carve out time and space to let your creativity unfold!

On the last Sunday of each month, September through December, join facilitator Amanda Wander for an open studio session designed for artists and creatives who need dedicated time to work in a community setting.

This is a flexible, self-directed session and not a formal class. As such, no traditional instruction is provided. Bring a collage, assemblage, or other mixed media piece you've already started and use the time to push it forward, or sit with a new idea and see where it takes you! A knowledgeable facilitator will be on hand to support your process, but the direction is yours.

Working alongside other artists in a shared studio environment opens the door to something a solo studio session can't: the chance to riff off one another's ideas, troubleshoot together, and gather feedback in a small, supportive group. If you've hit a wall with a piece or want a second set of eyes before calling it finished, this is the time to bring it.

These sessions are also open to previous bookbinding students who'd like to continue practicing techniques learned here at LeMoyne.

Basic supplies like paper, pencils, and other fundamental art materials will be on hand for sketching out ideas and working through concepts. Attendees should bring their own project materials for the work they plan to create.

Leave with renewed momentum on your work, new connections with fellow artists, and a little more clarity on where your creative practice is headed!

Meet the Instructor

Amanda Wander

Amanda Wander earned her BA in Studio Art from Florida State University in 2008. She served as Education Director at LeMoyne from 2004 to 2006 and has exhibited her mixed media collages and assemblages at venues such as LeMoyne and the Gadsden Arts Center. With a diverse skill set spanning photography, printmaking, leatherworking, bookbinding, foundry techniques, and graphic design, she has also taught workshops at LeMoyne and the Thomasville Center for the Arts. Wander's artistic philosophy embraces the idea that "more is better"—a belief she applies through the process of "gilding the lily," continually adding layers and complexity to her work. Her recent creations include artist books and small-scale mixed media collages, reflecting her ongoing exploration of texture, materiality, and narrative.
